Electric Vehicles With The Most Cargo Space
If you want cargo space, the SUV class is the place to look. Subaru’s lineup includes a variety of great SUVs, all with attractive trunks. The Subaru Ascent and Subaru Outback are tied for cargo space, with the Subaru Outback coming out on top with 75.7 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats down. The Subaru Ascent can pack up to 75.6 cubic feet of gear with the two rear rows folded down, and 43.5 cubic feet with the third row down. If you need a lot of cargo space but room for five passengers, the Ascent is the way to go, but the Outback wins with the maximum amount of cargo space available.

In many cases, the tall bodies and spacious cargo compartments of these vehicles justify this amount. Having already evaluated compact crossovers by their carrying capacity, we turned our attention to compact crossovers of the middle class.
Rather than classifying these vehicles based on cargo volume figures provided by automakers, we use our own data to show how much carry-on luggage fits in the SUVs we’ve thoroughly tested. We use our own numbers because few people can visualize space in cubic feet, the gauge manufacturers use to describe the cargo capacity of their cars. Each vehicle was evaluated in maximum load mode, with each row of seats but the fronts folded. Our test numbers were calculated using cardboard boxes about the size of an average carry-on, measuring 9 by 14 by 22 inches. In each case, the boxes were physically loaded into the cargo compartments of these crossovers and counted. For any comparison, the manufacturer’s cargo volume (in cubic feet) with the rear seats folded is crucial, and we’ve included those volumes for each SUV. – trunk capacity. The Santa Fe Sport is Hyundai’s two-row Santa Fe (the non-Sport Santa Fe is available with a third row). Those rear seats are split 60/40, and while they fold down easily using latches in the cargo area, they’re difficult to lift to return to the upright position. Although the Hyundai’s maximum cargo capacity is at the bottom of the pack, the 13 manual seats with rear seats are respectable.
All Jeep Grand Cherokee models, including the performance-oriented SRT and SRT Trackhawk models, share the same cargo area. So, whether you’re cruising around in a base Grand Cherokee or defying the laws of physics in a 707-horsepower Trackhawk, you can store a decent amount of junk in the trunk.
With the Journey’s 50/50 split-folding third-row seats, you can’t fit much in the cargo area. This problem is not unique to Dodge; The three-row Kia Sorento and GMC Acadia struggle to fit behind the rearmost seats. (The seats are devoted to more cargo space than in a two-row crossover of the same size.) Fold them down with the two rows of seats, and the view improves significantly, though not enough to elevate the look. Voyager from behind this review..
Mazda has made only a handful of changes to the CX-9 for 2018, none of them to the car’s shape or interior. Cargo space behind the rearmost row of seats remains an issue—again, like the Dodge Journey, it’s an issue unique to three-row midsize crossovers. Like the Voyager, the CX-9 only accommodates our 25 carry-on bags with the rear seats folded down. However, the rest of the Mazda is excellent, from its premium interior to its incredible drive, which is why we’ve included it on our 10 Best Trucks and SUVs list two years in a row.
Suvs With Most Trunk Space (sorted By Size)
His third row seat. The cargo compartment accommodates six pieces of carry-on luggage, with all seats in the upright position. Interestingly, the Explorer isn’t quite as impressive because its second and third rows are folded down, accommodating the same 25 carry-on bags as the smaller Dodge Journey.
Despite its sleek, rounded shape and average cargo volume, it falls short of similarly-sized (noticeably squared-off) inline-two rivals like the Nissan Murano, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. While carrying capacity of 26 with the rear seats folded down is plenty for the class, the Murano’s nine-bag capacity behind the rear seats is impressive.
Despite having the same 85 cubic feet of cargo space as the base Durango (with the second and third rows folded), a highly efficient 475-hp. SRT model. Only 26 non-SRT handbags were in possession. 30 bags of Durango.
The Kia Sorento’s choice of two or three rows of seats gives buyers the flexibility to configure their SUVs to carry more people – or without – a third row. We haven’t yet collected full test data for the three-row model, so these comparisons are based on the two-row Sorento EX, which has headroom comparable to some larger three-row crossovers with all the rear seats folded.
Suv Boot Space Comparison
The Acadia can carry cargo or people, but to do both at the same time, it’s best to attach a trailer and throw your passengers’ stuff in there. With clean exterior dimensions, the GMC suffers from cramped cargo space behind the third row, which only accommodated two carry-on bags during our testing. However, fold down those rear seats and there’s room to carry 28 pieces of luggage.
Although the Pathfinder has a very large exterior and a generous 80 cubic feet of cargo space for its class with all seats folded down, we were only able to fit 28 carry-on bags in the cargo area — the same as the more cramped GMC. . Acadia.
11 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL – 29 pieces of carry-on luggage, rear seats folded (four-door); 12 pieces of hand luggage, rear seats folded (two doors)
Here’s a pro tip: If you want to bring something to your new Wrangler, skip the classic two-door and go for the four-door Unlimited model. With the rear seats up, the two-door only fits two carry-on suitcases in its cargo area, compared to the four-door’s 12 suitcases. Fold down the rear seats of both Jeeps (using the much-improved seat-folding system on the latest Wrangler JL) and that disparity increases.

The stylish two-row Ford Edge has an advantage over some of its rivals, at least when it comes to hauling stuff. A large rear cargo area is located behind the second-row seats and can accommodate 12 carry-on bags; With those seats folded down, the Ford has one more carry-on than the larger three-row GMC Acadia and Nissan Pathfinder.
The Santa Fe’s 80 cubic feet of cargo space is accessible thanks to the lowest bumper height we’ve tested among its competitors, though it’s not quite as high with the rear seats folded flat.
We fit 30 full-size carry-ons in the Durango’s cabin with all the rear seats folded, but we only fit four behind the third row. Are you noticing a theme among the three-row crossovers?
The two-row 4Runner we tested had 90 cubic feet of cargo space, and we took full advantage of its compactness by folding down the rear seats and fitting 30 carry-on bags. One caveat, though: the lift height from the curb to the trunk floor is quite high.

Folding the Highlander’s second-row seats is a challenge, as the two-step process isn’t intuitive.
