These positive effects extend to health and well-being, cognition, emotion, and social behavior. At the same time, sociologists have shown that characteristics and outcomes at a given level can spread across three or more degrees in societies. We argue that the far-reaching effects of positive thinking can provide a framework for collective responses to some of our current and most pressing societal challenges and invite future mindfulness research to investigate the phenomenon.
