Social networking sites can provide teens with opportunities to share their interests in art, music, sports, blogging, and other topics (Clark-Pearson, O’Keeffe, 2011). The teenage years can be a difficult time and social media can be a place. Adolescents should seek support and advice when going through difficult experiences (Nielsen, 2009). Adolescents using Facebook show “emotional vulnerability” (Rosen, 2011). Social media can be a great and relatively easy way for teenagers to get to know and be more accepting of others from “different backgrounds” (Clarke-Pearson, O’Keeffe, 2011). In addition to providing social support, social media sites can also provide medical support. Adolescents can easily and unconsciously seek medical advice (Clark-Pearson, O’Keeffe, 2011).
Children and teenagers can impact their communities and the world in incredible ways. Social media gives them different ways to make a positive difference. Some examples are fundraising campaigns and participation in ‘political events’ (Clark-Pearson, O’Keeffe, 2011).

Additionally, teenagers who use Facebook are more likely to be bullies, antisocial, and aggressive (Rosen, 2011).

Many young people who use the Internet are attracted to online predators (Ybarra, 2007). As teenagers and their parents are concerned about the aforementioned risks, many teenagers are concerned about privacy issues (Yun, 2009). One problem with privacy issues is that many young people are not aware of the privacy laws of the social media websites they use (Cox, 2007).
Many teenagers are influenced by the heavy advertising they see on social media sites and this has a big impact on their shopping habits. Most of them do not realize that they are being personally targeted because the sites track their behavior and demographics.
