Online Business Brings Old Problems Along With New Opportunities For Women Entrepreneurs

Women’s entrepreneurship is considered by many researchers as a recent phenomenon of the 21st century, especially in developing countries. Because of its economic and social contributions, recent studies have focused on studying its motivations and achievements. Furthermore, researchers have found different views on entrepreneurship in different societies and cultures, and further research is needed. In this context, the main objective of this study is to assess the driving factors, challenges and prospects of women’s entrepreneurship in the context of post-communist countries. As part of the data collection process, a survey was conducted among 36 business women working in Tirana, the capital of Albania. The results of the study show that, although there is no significant difference between the percentage of women who consider discrimination and the percentage of female entrepreneurs who think that gender has a positive effect on business growth, it is good, there is a big difference during a recession. Women entrepreneurs receive support from their families and colleagues and those who receive it from their family. Emphasis is placed on various aspects of women in business development. Another goal of this study is to provide alternative recommendations for policy makers to consider to improve the business ecosystem in Albania.
Women’s entrepreneurship is considered by many experts as a phenomenon emerging in the 21st century, as women do not work hard to earn a living, but instead support their families (Rashid and Ratten 2020). Experts analyzed business characteristics such as business strength, work and business purpose to help them understand the most important aspects of work, driving and motivation (Corrêa et al. 2021). Other studies focus on mapping and categorizing the impacts of policy, management and action sectors, aiming to raise awareness of policies to be implemented to address their career challenges (Corrêa et al. 2022). However, “each region has its own social and cultural challenges that women entrepreneurs face differently” (Rashid and Ratten 2020, p. 37). This raises the need for quantitative and qualitative studies to further investigate and help us better understand the nature of the landscape (Rashid and Ratten 2020).
Rise Of Women Entrepreneurs
According to GEM (2022b), women in developing countries have more opportunities to start their own businesses than in high-income countries, with about 25% of women in low-income countries and 13% of middle-income countries with lower than average income. countries. country of income. About 10% of the world. The reason is that these women see entrepreneurship as a better way to earn money for their family.
Meanwhile, a study by Godani and Mura (2021) showed that in addition to goals that are directly related to economic factors, goals such as non-economic goals are also important for the success of women-led businesses. According to this study, independence gives women entrepreneurs the opportunity to have free time to take care of family responsibilities more easily (Godani and Mura 2021).
Although Albania, supported by the fact that the country is in the Western Balkan region, has been under strong control for 50 years, Western Europe is experiencing a period of great development and efficiency (Asllani et al. 2014; Berisha et al. 2022 and Smallbone 2008). The existence of the free market created the most efficient methods of trade and a new concept was born: globalization. In other words, while other countries are advancing, Albania is declining due to isolation. In this case, the concept of entrepreneurship is not yet in the minds of the Albanian people and it is believed that they are implementing the main economic model (Ferizi and Kruja 2018; Koka et al. 2021). Whereas in perfect market competition there are three economic actors – government, companies and consumers – in this case there are only two: government and consumers. Under these conditions, the government plays a major role in the distribution of goods and services, and Albanian citizens distribute goods between themselves and the government (Asllani et al. 2014; Ahmeti and Kruja 2020; Xheneti and Smallbone 2008).
However, after the fall of the government in 1991, Albania began to embrace free markets. With strong support for women around the world and also the view that Albania wants to take a step forward to join the EU (Kruja and Hysi 2020; Shkrepa and Kruja 2021), this study is important. It is very important to show the real motivation of women’s business projects and the main reasons for discrimination of women in business, in the hope of the necessary change and improvement of the existing conditions for working with Europe. The Phenomenon Of Women Entrepreneurship
As a country that has been under communist rule for a long time and still follows a patriarchal approach, women’s business success is still low (Kruja 2013b; Kruja et al. 2019; Kruja and Kadiasi 2020; Kruja and Berisha 2021). Therefore, this paper not only contributes to the existing literature on women’s entrepreneurship in a developing country such as Albania, but also aims to contribute, by providing evidence, to raising awareness of its importance and impact among businesspeople and policy makers. .
